Sad News – Don “Mucker” Munro

The Capilano RFC lost another valuable member and fan on the last day of December. Don Munro known as Mucker by his many friends was a retired West Vancouver School Principal and Teacher. Mucker was one of the icons, when I joined the West Van Barbarians in 1962. He along with Bill Ewing, the late Mike Smith and the late Bob Weston were players, coaches and kept the club alive until the Merger with the NS All Blacks in 1969. Mucker was great on and off the pitch and was a pleasure to be around. He drifted away from rugby following the merger but returned a few years ago and came to many games. Mucker told me he was very happy that he re connected with the club. He held his 90th birthday at the Capilano Club house attended by an overflow crowd. I last saw him riding his 3 wheeled bike down by the Black Kettle in December, shortly before he passed. He attended the Capilano 50th Dinner and we shared a couple of beers and old stories in the lounge. Mucker was one of a kind and will be fondly remembered by all of his friends. Hopefully we can all get together and toast the Capilano members that we have lost recently. RIP Mucky Muck!!!!
