Capilano Premier Reserves v’s Surrey Beavers. Beavers won 44-27.
This was the first cross over game the Premier Reserve teams against First Division sides. I didn’t make it out to Surrey for this one. It was obviously a high scoring affair so was likely an exciting contest. I was impressed with the caliber of play in the First Division Championship at Burnaby Lake last spring so I am not surprised by the result. Congratulations to Surrey Beavers.
The Women’s 2nd Division Game. Caps faced a combined team of Rowing Club and others.
Unfortunately the game was delayed due to a serious ankle injury to one of the visiting players. I believe Caps were up 15 points when the injury occurred and the game was later abandoned due to the lengthy delay. The young lady was taken off by stretcher following treatment by two paramed, teams and taken to hospital. We hope the injured player has a complete recovery and wish her well. Thanks to the referee for his assistance.
The Premier Women’s game. Bayside at Capilano. Capilano won 70-5.
By looking at the scores in this game and the Seattle Simon Fraser contest it is obvious that the Premier sides are much stronger than most if not all of the clubs that normally play in the First Division. For Caps several of the players that won the Canadian championship are not playing and with the exception of Seattle and Burnaby they are still too strong for the other clubs. Today some new players started for Capilano and others played out of position. Bayside have some good young talent and some strong runners but generally they were over matched. Caps scored often and even though many tries were unconverted they scored 13 tries to 1. Caps scorers were led by talented half back Christina Burnham who scored twice, Heather Muir also notched two, Lindsay Nicholson scored on a number 8 pickup and long run. Ashley Robinson scored on another long winding run. Frenchy Josephina scored as did Melissa Robinson. New winger Sakel Tehrani scored a try and looked good. Savanna Bacchurs who normally plays front row played center today, scored and impressed with her speed. Daniel Fearn scored a try and I think she also scored the final try of the day. Converts were added by Lindsay with 3 and Shannon Craig with 1. Thanks to the referee. The players went in for an after game meal prepared by Master Chef Jim Leith, Thanks Jim. Bayside handily won the Boat Race!
Next Weekend will see the Bob Spray, stadium field re opened after being repaired to fix and upgrade the drainage. A full slate of games will take place. Get out and support Capilano RFC in the official re opening. It promises to be an exciting day! Go Cap
