Capilano players, supporters, management, alumni, snowcaps and coaches: welcome back to Klahanie for the Season Opener, this weekend, Sept. 15th. For those players and supporters that went on the Tour de France, it seems the rugby never stopped from last season, but it did, and now it’s time for the restart. Many of our senior women’s and men’s team players have been training for a good part of the summer, and now is the time for the reward for the extra work.

The clubhouse is somewhat spruced up, the kitchen is within a couple of weeks of completion, Tim is back to a new deck, and thanks from all of us to Greg Larson for filling in for Tim while he was flitting about in Europe, grey beard and all! Also, many thanks to Ramses Langston who has been a stalwart player and Coach of the Age Grades, particularly U-19 for the last umpteen years. Ramses has an opportunity to expand his coaching base at UBC this year — we wish him well with this challenge.

Our premier women’s team has a slightly new look — Heather Jacques has assumed the head coach role with Darcy Patterson and Asuka Kusano assisting. Darcy and Erika have also started a U-18 program which is showing some early signs of success.

The men’s squads have many returning players from all divisions, but also some retirements at the Premier level. These retirements will allow some of the younger and newer players to showcase their game. It could be an exciting weekend as Bayside re-enters the Premier Division after a stint in Tier 2. We remember all too well that scenario — they are likely to come out strong to show they belong back up in the Premier Division.

  • 10:00 U-19 Caps vs Bayside (Upper Field)
  • 11:30 3A Men- Capilano vs Bayside (Upper Field)
  • 1:00 3B Men- Capilano vs Ridge Meadows (Upper Field)
  • 1:00 1st Div. Men- Capilano vs Bayside (Bob Spray Field)
  • 2:45 Premier Men- Capilano vs Bayside (Bob Spray Field)

Come on down to Klahanie for a big day — check out the clubhouse, see some new faces, some old faces, some cold drinks. Cheer the teams on to battle. C’est bon!

Go Caps Go!
